Local Runner Trains for LCH Run, Invites Community

Janet Rodriguez is gearing up for her first marathon, and wants to help her community go “from couch to 5K”

Janet Rodriguez of Kennett Square started running in 2008 – or, to be more exact, she started walking.  She began running in brief intervals, and soon she discovered she could run for much longer than she ever thought.  Over time, she began running more seriously, participating in numerous 5K and 10K races, and most recently her first half marathon.  Right now, Janet is in the process of training for her first marathon in November.

“Running is for everyone,” says Janet, LCH 5K Coach.

Janet was part of the planning committee for the first annual LCH Let’s Choose Health Run, which benefits La Comunidad Hispana (LCH).  In addition to helping to plan to event, she ran in the 5K race, and won first place among female finishers.  This year, she is helping to organize the 2nd annual event, and wants to pose a challenge to residents of southern Chester County.

From August 2 to September 20, Janet will lead a running group every Monday at Anson B. Nixon Park (meeting in the main parking lot) and every Wednesday at Kennett High School (meeting on the track) from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Everyone can run at his or her own pace, and people of every ability are welcomed.

“Running is for everyone,” says Janet.  “People who run don’t compete with others – we do it to become stronger physically and mentally.  I hope people will join me for runs, and see for themselves how great it feels.  Age doesn’t matter – just take those first few steps and get moving!”

The second annual LCH Let’s Choose Health Run will be held at Anson B. Nixon Park on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at 9:00 a.m.  The event includes a 5K run and a 1-mile family walk.  After the run and walk, families are welcome to stay and enjoy a mariachi band performance, fun family activities, food trucks and more.  Proceeds from the event will support LCH’s health care services in Kennett and Oxford, its Dental Center in Kennett Square, and its range of social, legal, and educational programs intended to strengthen our community.
